The Attic Crew are Flooring Experts

Our flooring comes in 3 different types,  Hardwood, Semi Solid and Laminate Flooring. The main differences between these are in the construction, appearance, durability, and installation methods. Hardwood offers authenticity and can be refinished but may be more susceptible to environmental changes. Semi-solid flooring combines real wood with increased stability, while laminate provides a cost-effective and durable alternative with a wood-like appearance. Each type has its advantages, and the choice depends on personal preferences, budget, and the specific needs of the space

Hardwood Flooring

Material

Hardwood flooring is made from solid wood, typically harvested from deciduous trees like oak, maple, or walnut.

Appearance

It offers a timeless and authentic look, showcasing the natural beauty of wood with its unique grain patterns and colors.

Durability

Hardwood is durable and can last for many years. It can be sanded and refinished multiple times, allowing for repairs and restoration.

Installation

Installation can be more labor-intensive compared to other flooring types. It may require professional installation, and it is usually nailed or stapled to a wooden subfloor.

Semi-Solid (Engineered) Flooring

Material

Semi-solid flooring consists of multiple layers of wood. The top layer is real hardwood, while the lower layers are composed of plywood or high-density fiberboard (HDF).

Appearance

It looks similar to solid hardwood but may have a slightly different feel or grain pattern due to the layering process.

Durability

Engineered wood is more resistant to moisture and temperature changes than solid hardwood. It’s also less prone to warping and can be installed in areas with fluctuating humidity levels.

Installation

Semi-solid flooring often comes in click-and-lock or tongue-and-groove systems, making it suitable for DIY installation. It can be glued down, nailed, stapled, or floated over various subfloors.

Laminate Flooring

  • Material: Laminate flooring consists of multiple layers, including a high-density fiberboard (HDF) core topped with a high-resolution photograph of wood or other materials, sealed with a protective layer.
  • Appearance: While it mimics the look of wood, laminate doesn’t have the authentic feel of real wood. However, advancements in technology have improved the visual realism of laminate.
  • Durability: Laminate is highly resistant to scratches, stains, and fading. It’s a good choice for high-traffic areas and homes with children or pets.
  • Installation: Laminate often features a click-and-lock installation system, making it suitable for DIY projects. It can be floated over an underlayment without the need for adhesives.
